VILLAGE FETE 14TH JUNE 2008 We had not expected to beat last year's bumper record but came mighty close! These superb results suggest that the "credit crunch" hasn't hit our local supporters just yet. We are immensely grateful to all those who assisted in setting up on Friday evening & Saturday morning and then clearing up after the event. Equally our thanks go to all stallholders and those who spent so generously.Chesterford Research Park kindly provided sponsorship of £500 to meet expenses including bouncy castle and marquee hire, donation to NFGS Big Band, competition and raffle prizes. We are most grateful for contributions from Pearse House, Huntsman, Hexcel Composites, Springwell Nursery, Alan Drury Signwriting, Dish Restaurant, Waitrose, Activity Superstore and all others too numerous to mention here individually. The sponsorship money was £150 lower than last year, so expenses will mean that net profits are likely to be around £3150 which will be shared equally between the Village Hall & St Mary's Parish Church. Very well done to everybody who helped and supported us. see details here Some pictures here Eleanor Daniels It was with a great sense of loss and sadness that friends and neighbours of Eleanor Daniels faced her unexpected death on November 3rd 2007.Eleanor was one of those people who were always there, at every event, helping, cooking, and taking part ( literally, as a Mrs Cropley character in the Vicar of Dibley performance in the Village Hall ). Her fruit cakes were memorable raffle prizes, and her sausage rolls were there at our tea parties. She supported all our village events, and could always be found on the cake stall at the village fete. Although Eleanor generally worshipped at the United Reformed Church in Abbey Lane, she was often at St Mary's Lt. Chesterford, for the 'main' events. Eleanor was a village person, joining us with her parents and living in the High Street for 41 years, and staying with us after their death. She taught Domestic Science at S.W.C H.S. from the early 60s, until she retired in the late 80s. From 1978 she was head of Home Economics. Eleanor at one time or another sat on all the village committees, Parish Council, and Village Hall. She was on the Village Hall committee from its conception. She was also a very active gardener, and was Treasurer of the Chesterfords Gardening society for 14 years. Eleanor was one of those people you could always rely on, never let you down, and you imagined would go on forever . She will be sorely missed by all her family and friends, but she leaves us with some lovely memories, which we will all treasure. The Church at Lt. Chesterford was packed for Eleanor's funeral on Tuesday 13th November. It was a beautiful service conducted by her U.R.C. minister the Rev. Murray Goerge, with her family playing a large part, and the hymns Eleanor would have loved. After the service she was placed in the churchyard, close to her parents. In remembrance of Eleanor, and after discussion amongst us, it was decided that a tree, probably a crab apple would be planted in the village hall garden, with a plaque in remembrance of Eleanor. |
